Reporting to the President + CEO, BC Women’s Health Foundation, the Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships provides strategic and operational leadership in the creation, planning and execution of signature fundraising events that are aligned with the Foundation’s goals and priorities. The Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships will lead the prospecting, securing and stewarding of pillar partnerships for the organization.

The Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships is also responsible for growing the community partnerships portfolio of BCWHF including securing national and provincial part proceeds partnerships.

The Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships participates on the Senior Leadership team contributing to the development of integrated strategic and operational plans in support of the Foundation vision and strategic direction. The role provides leadership to a team of staff supporting signature events and community events and relationships.

The Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships also liaises with physicians, BC Women’s Hospital administration, BCWHF development staff and programs leaders at BC Women’s to identify and develop proactive strategies to grow organizational reach, develop partnerships and strengthen our impact as a brand.

Specific Accountabilities

Strategy and Leadership

  • In support of the strategic direction and vision from the President + CEO, creates an event and community relations strategy and operational plans to support Foundation revenue objectives and donor cultivation in alignment with Hospital needs.
  • Actively participates on the Senior Leadership team developing integrated and strategic and operational plans in support of the Foundation vision and strategic direction.

Signature Events

  • Leads the planning, management and execution of all aspects of multiple, annual signature events.
  • Provides significant support and growth of BCWHF annual sponsorship strategy, including securing partners for key events benefitting the Foundation.
  • Works collaboratively with the Senior Leadership team to recruit senior volunteer committee members to provide signature event strategic vision; works closely with and supports the committee throughout the organization cycle.
  • Leads the team in the creation of new events that drive incremental fundraising revenue and grow education and awareness in the province on women’s health.
  • Maintains exceptional relationships with event committees and co-chairs, helping recruit new volunteers to work of BCWHF.
  • Attends event committee meetings as required, providing support and leadership of BCWHF key events.
  • Given the nature of events, works irregular hours including evenings, weekends.

Sponsorship and Fundraising

  • Develops and implements strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major event sponsors; proactively pursues media relationships and sponsorship opportunities in support of raising event and Foundation positive public profile.
  • Ensures sponsorship agreements and interests are fulfilled and maximizes sponsorship engagement in events; provides ongoing stewardship to sponsors including providing follow-up reports and tracking data and ensuring appropriate sponsorship recognition.
  • Identifies donor prospects from events and coordinates with the Senior Leadership team to ensure continued relationship with the Foundation.
  • Ensures accurate database, written records and reporting for all events and community relationships.


  • Leads as key point of contact and driver on behalf of BCWHF in a national strategic alliance with women’s hospitals in Canada, securing national cause marketing partnerships benefiting women’s health across the country.
  • Leads the prospecting, securing and stewarding of pillar partnerships for BCWHF.
  • Develops and creates opportunities for pillar partnerships including relationship management and execution of contract deliverables.
  • Working with the Community Partnerships team, oversees strategy for annual cause marketing campaigns, bringing new brands and partners to the Foundation.
  • Leads and executes the identification and solicitation of new third party community fundraising partners; manages existing community relationships and leads the support of third party fundraising events.


  • Coaching, mentoring and performance management of Strategic Partnerships Director.
  • Provides leadership and supervision of staff and volunteers supporting signature events and community events and relationships.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the scope of the role and as required.


Education and Experience

A University degree in a related field or completion of a post-secondary events/marketing/fundraising program and a minimum of 7 years direct experience in leading event organization and fundraising.  Demonstrated success in securing sponsorships and gifts and managing donor/sponsorship relations. Strategic leadership and supervisory experience required.

  • Ability to develop and execute event and community relations fundraising strategies and operational plans for the Foundation and for self.
  • Ability to cultivate and steward a wide variety of corporate sponsors/donors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively coach, facilitate, influence and persuade others both internal and external to the organization and the ability to develop and compose compelling solicitation packages and sponsorship proposals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and establish positive relationships with individuals and groups.
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial in seeking out sponsorship and community relationship opportunities.
  • Sound knowledge of the local philanthropy environment and fundraising cycle.
  • Sound knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency regulations regarding charities and donations.
  • Ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff and volunteers supporting the event and community relationship function including leading through and managing change.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency in donor database systems (Raisers Edge).
  • Demonstrated resilience and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, evenings and weekends.
