While state-of-the-art equipment, facilities, and dedicated medical experts are critical to patient well-being, but we recognize that healing extends beyond these mainstays of medical care. The environment in which care is delivered profoundly impacts the emotional, psychological and even physical well-being of patients, their families and hospital staff.
With this in mind, we are proud to announce the establishment of the BC Women’s Health Foundation Art Collection. This curated selection of artwork will create an inspiring, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for patients and their families as they embark on their healthcare journeys. The collection, showcasing the contemporary work of Canadian and International artists, will be thoughtfully integrated throughout our public and clinical spaces, enhancing the hospital experience and contributing to a more human-centred model of care for everyone.
Research shows that exposure to art in healthcare settings can significantly reduce stress, promote healing and improve patient outcomes. Art has the power to create moments of peace, reflection and hope—qualities that are vital to quality of care. For patients, their loved ones and the medical teams that serve them, this collection will provide comfort and connection in times of uncertainty.
