Transforming Healthcare Through Art

Home | Gifts of Art

At BC Women’s Health Foundation, we proudly support the life-changing care provided by BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre. Together, we continually seek new and innovative ways to transform healthcare for the women who walk through our hospital doors.

While state-of-the-art equipment, facilities, and dedicated medical professionals are critical to patient well-being, we recognize that healing extends beyond these mainstays of medical care. The environment in which care is provided significantly influences the emotional, psychological, and even physical well-being of patients, their families and hospital staff.

With this in mind, we are proud to announce the launch of the BC Women’s Health Foundation Art Collection. This carefully curated selection of artworks will create an inspiring, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for patients and their families as they embark on their healthcare journeys. The collection, showcasing the contemporary work of Canadian and international artists, will be thoughtfully integrated throughout our public and clinical spaces, enriching the hospital experience and supporting a more human-centred model of care for everyone.

Research indicates that exposure to art in healthcare settings can significantly reduce stress, promote healing, and improve patient outcomes. Art has the power to create moments of peace, reflection, and hope—features that are essential to quality care. For patients, their loved ones, and the medical teams that serve them, this collection will provide comfort and connection during uncertain times.

You can help us bring this vision to life.

BC Women’s Health Foundation is seeking donations of original artwork as well as financial donations to support installation and transportation, framing and preservation, collections management and conservation.

Collection Priorities

  • Reflect diversity: Showcasing works by Canadian and international artists from a broad range of cultural, social and gender identities
  • Promote wellness: Selecting pieces that inspire calm, resilience and beauty
  • Support accessibility and inclusion: Ensuring the collection is welcoming and meaningful to all
  • Address the underrepresentation of female artists in both museum and corporate collections: Ensuring that female artists and those who identify as female make up more than 50% of the hospital’s collection

With your help, we will transform BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre into an uplifting and nurturing space. Your support will ensure our collection inspires and leaves a lasting impression on everyone who walks through our doors.
