“Growing up, my mom was the most important person in my life,” Phil Arrata shares. “Despite being an inspirational, smart, and capable leader, in those days, opportunities for young women in the corporate world were rare. The expectation was for women to raise a family. She is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met, and it would have been amazing to see what she would have accomplished had she continued her career. Her experience is an example of the importance of gender equality.”
“Later, as my mother fought breast cancer, I felt there was an opportunity for more holistic treatment beyond the physical challenges. I know we can do better.”
“When I moved to British Columbia and saw how BC Women’s Hospital takes a holistic approach to both the mind and spirit of their patients, I knew that I wanted to donate my time and financial support to the Foundation.”
Inspired by the passion and support of our community, each and every member of the BC Women’s Health Foundation’s Board of Directors have joined together to donate $100,000 to support the Foundation’s COVID-19 Funds.
“Often newborns and maternity come to mind when people think of BC Women’s Health Foundation,” says Phil Arrata. “I’m proud of the work our Foundation does as the charitable partner of BC Women’s Hospital. However, there’s a lot more to women’s health across all life stages”.
As the Foundation prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary, our Board of Directors is reigniting their passion with 100% commitment, 100% dedication, and $100,000 to help ensure women have equitable access to the highest quality, specialized healthcare, when they need it most.
“It’s why we expanded our mandate to fund, advocate for, and educate on the need to support specialized healthcare for women,” says Phil. “Women need equitable access to healthcare, and their unique health needs are different from men. I’m honoured to be part of the movement that’s improving healthcare for women.”
“This goes beyond BC Women’s Hospital and the Women’s Health Research Institute. With our Foundation’s new mandate to support women province-wide, I believe that, together with our donors, we are making history”.
“It’s a special time to be a partner with this inspirational organization.”
Thank you to all our donors, supporters, and volunteers for your
passion and generosity to advancing the full spectrum of women’s health.
