Welcome to the Changemaker’s Market presented by BlueShore Financial, a digital community of over 200 movers and makers who have generously donated their goods and services to benefit the BC Women’s Health Foundation.
Each and every item or service has been generously donated by a BC business owned by cis women, trans folks, non-binary folks, and those across the gender spectrum. You can bid on items, with all proceeds benefiting the BC Women’s Health Foundation and our mission of healthy women everywhere, capable of anything.
We asked our Changemakers a few questions, including Cecily Elmas (she/her) and Steph Corker (she/her) of The Corker Collective, a human capital consulting firm dedicated to crafting people strategies that put the heartbeat into the business bottom line.
Tell me a favourite series or movie that you watched during the pandemic?
To be honest, most of my pandemic watching is with my 10 and 8 year old. The best ones we’ve seen are SOUL and Raya the Last Dragon and Steph is not a TV watcher!
Have you started any new hobbies?
We have a new relationship with Zoom and a new habit of screen sharing on Zzoom! Reading books from BIPOC authors. A new habit of drinking more juices and water with an increase of bio breaks.
Why did you choose to donate to the Changemaker’s Market?
At The Corker Collective, we chose to donate to the Changemakers Market because we stand for elevating the experiences of female leaders, however we can support!
Why does women’s health matter to you?
At The Corker Collective, we believe that Healthy Leaders Lead Healthy Businesses. When we are fully at our best health that means that we’re nourished, sweating, sleeping well and have said powerful YES’s and clear NO’s. Health matters to us and we know what it feels like to not feel healthy, to be worried about illness and to be healthy is such a gift that we do not take for granted.
Nearly four in ten women report their mental health has worsened since the beginning of the pandemic a year ago. How do you cope with stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic?
Here are our top ways to deal with Stress during the pandemic:
- Sweat Daily
- Meditate + Yoga as frequently as possible
- Play Music that heals and shake your body
- Focus on the goals that matter most to you
- Eating clean from your garden if possible (1 Green Juice a Day)
- Sleeping early
- Read. Read more. Read even more. (or listen to an audio book)
- most important is to LAUGH out loud.
What inspires you most about giving back to your community?
Helping in any way we can is hugely important. Everything flows in and out as soon as we stop the flow things become stagnant. Giving back to the community gives us the feeling that we’re part of something that we care about, that we are part of the solution not the cause and that we are ACTING vs watching.
What or who is a local shop founded by a woman that you admire?
Cecily Elmas: The Corker Collective founded by a woman – Steph Corker has courage, candor, wisdom, creativity and dedication to giving womxn a voice, to see how’s not at the table and by how humble she is.
And lastly, one word to describe your legacy?
Transformational
