Welcome to the Changemaker’s Market presented by BlueShore Financial, a digital community of over 200 movers and makers who have generously donated their goods and services to benefit the BC Women’s Health Foundation.
Each and every item or service has been generously donated by a BC business owned by cis women, trans folks, non-binary folks, and those across the gender spectrum. You can bid on items, with all proceeds benefiting the BC Women’s Health Foundation and our mission of healthy women everywhere, capable of anything.
We asked our Changemakers a few questions, including Jillian Sheridan, Co-Founder, Partner and Director of Brand and Marketing at Legends Haul. Jillian moved to Vancouver from the Rocky Mountains when she was 18 and knew that this is where she was supposed to be.
Tell me a favourite series or movie that you watched during the pandemic?
Bridgerton – I might even rewatch it, I’m so obsessed.
Have you started any new hobbies?
This wasn’t my year for hobbies as work was around the clock but I’m going to take golf lessons this spring.
Why did you choose to donate to the Changemaker’s Market?
Women are the center of the universe. The strongest, most powerful people I’ve ever met. If we can do anything to help support the well being of women’s health I can’t think of a greater cause.
The theme for International Women’s Day is #ChooseToChallenge. How will you #ChooseToChallenge the inequities that exist in women’s health?
To champion change and education on the importance of women’s health — especially mental health. The sheer capacity women juggle day to day creates many mental health challenges. For my daughter, I want her to grow up knowing – you can do anything, but not everything and when you’re at your capacity, and it’s ok. It’s ok to talk about it, to not be ok, to need help, and to have the tools to get help. There’s so much that happens for women that we still don’t talk about.
Nearly four in ten women report their mental health has worsened since the beginning of the pandemic a year ago. How do you cope with stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic?
Starting a business in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, working through all of its challenges, and not being with my kids everyday has not been easy. While I would love to say I worked out more and meditated everyday, for me it was CBD oil that helped relieve stress during certain periods, I’ve implemented intermittent fasting 5 days a week to help with fatigue and brain fog, and a balanced diet. My constant mantra has been ‘life is tough but so are you.’
What inspires you most about giving back to your community?
That giving back has the power to change someone’s life.
What or who is a local shop founded by a woman that you admire?
Lilian from Mumgry. A powerhouse mom and entrepreneur. I’ve loved working with her. She has a very special spark.
And lastly, one word to describe your legacy?
Resilience
